Outpacing the second hand
I gave it up, of course,
eventually,
dropping back to prove myself
against minutes and hours.
Now you’ll find me
napping in the shadows.
But I’ve hung a flag
on that fastest hand:
It’s good to know what was.
Circling
Adam in week three
I’ve hardly brought it up.
Though I wonder,
when I hear
the thud and thump,
if the flitting nut falling
isn’t some dodgy gift
heaped atop
an untimely demotion
Silviculture
And now for the rest of the story
Batter up
He wouldn’t swing,
he’d wait and watch.
Even outside balls
were inside to him.
He’d walk, but the
running was done
by the doubt that circled his eyes.
His pupils were islands
in a lake of tomorrow.
Cigarette smoke and a shivering dog
