There’s a part that’s missing, see
We won’t say which one it is
(don’t want to worry you)
but let’s just say you wouldn’t
want to fly without it.
Now the thing is,
we don’t have this part locally.
We’ll need to fly it in
on a plane that does fly,
and that could be some hours.
Meantime, why don’t you just
sit back, enjoy your Coke
and complimentary chips
and leave the worrying to your Delta Sky Team.
Your face locked
In the pane that shattered
In the puddle sprung
In the running tear
of a windcut dawn
Landing in the snow at Friday Harbor
We’ll not miss the island.
When we’re near, it will beckon.
A line of lights will point the way,
and we’ll have more than
this roar and blue buffeting —
more to guide us
than the glow of little dials.
What weight
is borne
by the shadow of our flight?
I know not,
but I know this:
the lower we went,
the closer we came,
and we crashed
when we hit the ground.
Winging it
Flight from flatland
It’s all in the folding.
That’s the secret
to becoming a crane.
