Mind 3
God gave us a boomerang
But we call it the mind.
The mind slips below
Well before the sun
Deep blue sea
Do you have
a strong mind?
I think I do,
I said, for
when I cast,
I cast far, but I
reel it back in.
Some, though,
once the hook sets,
give line
and the fish goes
and far
and they all go live
in the deep blue sea.
For Annegien
And for Phil Phillips
Solstice dialogue
Two more days and the days will get longer.
Voice of someone else and the wilding of the mind.
Just a bit more light. I promise I’ll get stronger.
Voice of someone else and the wilding of the mind.
Breathless
I’ve run on ahead of where my
mind was, and am looking around now
at
You’ll know where you are when
you’ve been there, but until then
Standing still I can feel it all catching up –
or is it something new coming on?
Nothing, nothing, a deer’s eyes
emerge from the fog.
In which minds where
Do you live
and what do you do there
far afield, a pair?
I’ve got people in me,
they don’t even know.
And somewhere, too, I’m gone from myself.
I’m doing things I never will guess.
Thirty years a vegetable
A carrot.
Deep in the ground.
It went the other way.
Not the plucky way to the table,
but its own way, down the Solomon
and up the Ganges.
That microfiber we call sanity
Should a fly alight
and rest there awhile,
then we might know
how fine a fiber it is.
