One polishes a car.
One cracks an egg.
One sprays ammonia
on a cabinet of glass.
One sweeps.
One wipes.
One mourns.
Don’t change, she said
Right after she fired me
for being the way I was.
A workman’s wage
I have moved the earth
and shaken the stars,
but still I wait.
