I love making the coffee and thinking of my grandmother.
I love how a kitchen light can be
the only light in the house,
and a clock the only sound.
I used to wake to it.
Now I make it for others.

I can picture your grandmother from your memoir. Love that reference.
I used to visit her on my spring break from Princeton (when others were in the Islands). We’d leave in the dark for the 7:00 a.m. Mass.
